My dr prescribed it for fast heart rate and high BP. 25 mg a day broke in half (12.5 mg twice a day) I decided to go to a cardiologist and made an appt for next week. I am reading a lot online that the meds cause weight gain. Even if people eat healthy. I need to lose 40 lbs not gain. I’ve been taken it for 3 days and my pulse in the 90’s several times still and BP 140/90. Is it hard to get off of and switch to a new med? I was reading also how side effects are terrible to ween off of.
I’ve taken it for years and know others who have. There have been no noticeable side effects that I’ve noticed, including weight issues. My dose is 25 mg. twice a day.
OP, I've taken the same dose as you for 15 years. No significant weight gain. It did take several weeks for my pulse and BP to regulate and so far it has been controlled. I noticed slight fatigue in the beginning but it resolved.

Many meds CAN have certain side effects but only actually affect a relatively small number of people. And, many side effects can be temporary, so consider that as well. There are several alternatives that could likely be considered if you end up having lasting side effects after a reasonable trial period. Few medications show their full effects after just a few days - give it a little more time.
My source on webmd said the average weight gain is about 2.5 pounds - and that is the AVERAGE (some people gain nothing). It also said that if you discontinue it you shouldn't all at once - so, easy solution - your doctor can lower your dose gradually if that's an issue.

I have been taking Metoprolol Succinct ER for several years now,50mg and 40mg lisenopril.I never found it to have anything to do with BP.I have had triple bypass,2010.I am a senior 87 and weight never a problem.
I did have some trouble with BP which has been straightened out,
My heart rate 50-60.
Did any of you take it for heart disease or manly for high BP? I’m 46, trying to loose 40 lbs, type 2 diabetic, on Metformin, also on cholesterol meds, and levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. Take Nexium as well I’m not young be feel too young to have many problems. I do try and exercise at least 30 minutes a day and have done it regularly for almost 20 years. I’m constantly watching my Fitbit and my heart rate is frequently in the 90’s and sometimes up to 105 when I’m getting ready in the morning or taking the dogs out etc....sometimes in the middle of the night it’s in the 90’s but sometimes the 70’s. My Fitbit says my resting heart rate is 75 to 79 during my period and around 80 to 85 when not. I don’t sleep well at all. No trouble falling asleep but up 3 or 4 hours later. My Fitbit says I only sleep about 5 to 6 hours. I’m always worried about things. And have terrible OCD.
I take it twice a day. I don't remember now whether it's because of my blood pressure or my heart attack. No side effects that I can tell. My recent weight gain was because I wasn't paying attention and stopped walking/biking as much.
EDIT: I looked at my prescription and it's 100mg twice a day.

I take Metoprolol Tartrate. Is that what you take? My husband takes 25 once a day of Metoprolol Succinate.
Metoprolol Succinate. I began taking it for rapid pulse and slight hypertension. Overall, it controls the pulse well. Occasionally it is rapid but I’ve also found exercise, even walking, helps.
