Back in the 80s, there was a gourmet food catalogue that I ordered from. They no longer exist, but they had this wonderful rice that they'd sent me in the first "sample" order. It was a red rice, very hearty and almost chewy, and it smelled like popcorn when you cooked it. Loved it. It was great for a vegetarian dinner of rice and beans. I've never seen it anywhere since.
That sounds like Thai cargo rice. I've bought it at Asian markets and even on eBay. I'm sure you could find it on Amazon.

Oh, I see somebody suggested the right one!

Amen! I will never eat octopus after learning how intelligent they are. We have langostino here but they are not cooked alive. I would feel bad about that!

Don't eat chicken since I had a pet banty.

We just eat lean hamburger and pork loin and tuna for protein. Anything else is tougher than nails.

I don't like most fruits---never ripe.

Hate bananas (living in a banana republic, lol)

No fast food and very rarely any sweets---homemade once in awhile. No junk food/processed food except DH likes pasta.

Might have to go back on the wagon since DH's stomach is acting up.

But we're not allergic to anything.

Thanks! To tell the truth, I've looked for it in gourmet stores when I had the opportunity, but I never looked online and haven't thought of it in a while until this thread.

I'd like to have it again because I do like some vegetarian rice and bean dishes, and it would be good with that rice.

There are many individual foods I avoid, but the only entire categories of foods I won’t eat are the following:

* Stinky cheeses
* Offal, unless it’s poultry liver and gizzard incorporated in a good from-scratch gravy (“from scratch”—doesn’t that term come from chickens scratching for food?)
* Any shellfish except scallops
* Any extremely bitter or extremely sweet food
* Fast food items that consist mainly of highly processed components

Louisana pecan rice sold in small boxes smelled like popcorn when cooking. I haven’t seen it sold in many years. It was good stuff.

If you cook quinoa, chill it overnight, and then fry it like rice, it smells like popcorn.

I tried to like quinoa, but it's just something to pick out of your teeth later and not tasty enough to be worth doing that.

Loosely,

green vegetables (although I like celery once in a while)

seafood except shrimp, battered cod, and tuna

cream of wheat
cream of rice
malt-o-meal
oatmeal

gravy

any eggs except scrambled or omlettes

animal innards (no liver, no gizzards, no pate, no caviar)

anything with eyes that looks back at me

cereal

a lot of sweet foods

Basically, if anyone wants to get me something, I just tell them if it's expensive, fattening, or not good for me, they're good.

Snip, snip, snip.

You don't like salad or coleslaw?

I'll add grits to the slop in a bowl list that I won't eat. I sometimes cook oatmeal with less water than recommended and cook for a shorter time. Mmmm, chewy oats.
