I've had shingles outbreaks on the face twice as well as post herpetic neuralgia. More concerning than the more common outbreaks on the body trunk due to potential eye/vision damage. For whatever reason my immune system doesn't play nice with that virus, so I chose the vaccination series about 2 years ago. I had some of the widely reported reactions to the vaccine (shivery, feverish, achiness for a day, sore arm) but nothing worrisome. Fine by the next day and no complications since.

For Shingrex, make sure you get the booster shot six months later.
I had received the original shingles vaccine about 5 years ago, and the newer Shingrex vaccine (2 shots) about 3 years ago. Don’t sweat it. I don’t recall any major side effects.
I know a couple of people that got shingles and it wasn’t any fun. That made me decide to get it.
I had a rather large red, raised and very sore spot at the site when I got the first shot. But that was all. It did last about a week. Nothing happened with the 2nd shot.
Got the Shingrix vaccine when it first came out - about 7 years ago or so, in Canada. Do I understand there is a booster now that they are suggesting everyone get?
(as far as reactions to those original shots - bit sore arm, nothing else)
I got Shingrix last year. After the first dose, my arm was slightly sore and the next day I felt a little run-down, like I was coming down with a cold.
After the second dose, I starting feeling under the weather within a couple of hours and spent almost the entire next day in bed feeling like I had the flu (aches, chills). I would say it was the most severe reaction I've ever had to a vaccine. However, by the evening I was starting to feel better and was completely fine the next day.
From what I've heard of shingles, the side effects are worth it. I do not get flu shots and had exactly one (two-dose) Covid vaccine, so that's saying something. I do not want shingles.
