They aren't exactly the same they are different drugs but they are basically "cousins"
Neurontin=gabapentin
Lyrica=pregalbin
Lyrica isn't "pre gabapentin" but both drugs are chemically very similar and work on the same calcium channels in the central nervous system.
The main difference between the 2 (besides cost) is that Lyrica is more potent, and more bioavailable so lower doses can have the same effect as higher doses of Neurontin and Lyrica "may have" fewer side effects...
Both your experience and Mikala's experience are common, that is, some people who don't see improvement with Neurontin don't see improvement with Lyrica and others who don't respond to Neurontin do respond to Lyrica
