There is this medicated chapstick called Herpecin. LOL @ the name. You can get it from drugstore.com. I have never had cold sores but everyone around me seems to, so I have given this chapstick to all my family and friends. They seem to be experiencing less outbreaks by using this. I am very paranoid about being infected (though I probably already am) or getting an outbreak, so I use this daily.
The L-lysine works too, but it makes people sleepy.
I'm dealing with an episode of cold sores and they are absolutely unsightly. The campo-phenique stuff isn't working too well in terms of clearing up the sore. How can I speed up the recovery process. I usually get these when my body is under stress or when my allergies is acting up. Help!
abreva works for me. if I have acyclovir 5% tables, even faster. 2 days and the cold sores are gone.

they can appear inside or around your nose, near your eyes, etc.
Gotta toss in Valtrex. Yep the prescription herpes drug. For cold sores you take a pill when you feel the "buzz" or tingle that the cold sore is coming on. Then 12 hours later you take a second pill. This for me has eliminated all outbreaks for about 3 years now. Also when I started on this I had 3-4 outbreaks a year. As a drug Valtrex has no generic and it is pricey but worth it. Since you only take 2 pills per outbreak the cost goes a long way.

Well they do show up elsewhere on and in the body. There's the genital form, and there's shingles and there's even a kind that gets in your brain if you really get unlucky. My best guess is that they keep coming back to where they first came in.
There is a new drug that comes in a vile (sp?) that you break
to allow the liquid to reach the cotton that you dab on your lip.
My dentist had it and now I can find it at Walgreen.
It really nips the blister in the bud if you get it on it when you first feel the blister.
I keep some on hand so I can use it as soon as I feel the tingle.
I am going to find this name and add it to my post.
This stuff really works...
