Health Care for Women. (doctor, insurance, specialists, kids)

I have a general doctor question for the women here.

I've not been great about going to the doctor as regularly as I should even though I have insurance. I was talking to a friend about it the other day and in conversation she mentioned that she has both a gynecologist and a primary care physician. Is this normal? As far as I know my friend doesn't have issues that would warrant a specialist.

Do most women have a gyno and a pcp? Don't most physicians provide basic gynecological care in their office?

Sounds like you've never had kids maybe? That's what made the difference, for me at least.

PCPs are not specialized in anything, though you can have your gyno as your PCP, for some insurance carriers at least. Yes, it's common to have both. Your pcp simply refers you to other specialists.

I have both. I take care of all my "well woman" check ups at my gyno.
