My son has been sick on and off since January. It seems as soon as he is over one he gets another. A variety, like the flu, then the stomach virus, then a cold, strep throat, etc. This is his first year at school, did this happen to any other Kinder parents? I feel like we have some kind of immune deficiency going on. lol
Does it get better in 1st grade? Ug, so tired and feel so bad for the little guy.
Just looking for some advise on how to make him a little stronger.
My daughter was constantly sick during kindergarten, so much so we took her out of school and homeschooled until she was ready for second grade. She does still occasionally get sick, but only once or twice a year.
Thanks, good advice, he doesn't eat anything but veggie nuggets and peanut butter. lol
Homeschooling is a thought, my girls were homeschooled and rarely were sick but my boy is too much for me to homeschool I'm afraid. lol I'm going to need to conform for him, as difficult as I find it. lol
Yes...back to school germs. I know this is next to impossble to get it 100% but its a good idea to rehash the washing hands, not sharing personal items and not touching your face when in public lecture. Getting sick is good for him and his immune system in the long run. One of the things they say its good for is that kids tend to develop less allergies and are more resistant to getting sick later on.
He should have a better diet than that too for so many reasons. I hope you at least feed him natural peanut butter and not that sugar laden crap. Sugar is terrible for the immune system and general health. Those veggie nuggets probably have sugar in them too.

Good idea, I have been trying to get him in that routine but everyone goes to school sick and they have close contact sharing crayons, etc. Very difficult. I think eating healthy and getting plenty of rest is my only weapon.
Do you have any idea what kind of food a kid could eat without added sugar, I have a hard time finding it. If veggie nuggets have sugar as well then no wonder he loves them. lol I don't consciously keep him from sugar, I do use unrefined sugar at home but don't actively keep him from it. Do you have any kid friendly suggestions for foods with out sugar? Besides the obvious. Is it just a matter of keeping him from processed foods? Or do fruits count?
Thanks for any help, a good diet would be great for all in my household.
And maybe build up the old immune systems after the last couple of months.
What else does he eat? Any time I tried to get kids to try out new food it looks and taste like whatever they already like. For example I was watching these kids that were total fruit roll up addicts..lol...anyway I made them real fruit puree "roll ups" in the food dehydrator and they preferred those or dry natural fruit.
I personally don't think whole fruits count or are bad at all. I think those should be watched when you get up in years but they are fine for a kid. Better than juice or junk!
I would try to play around with a homemade veggie meatloaf type thing for him. If he likes a touch of sugar you could try adding some agave nectar to hide any bitterness to any plain cooked veggies. If you add just a touch to any dark green veggie it takes off that bite that usually turns kids off. You can use a pinch of sugar and a pat of butter too. The agave is healthier than the sugar though. You may still want to add some spice or butter/oil type thing. Buying veggies in season tend to taste better. Organics have a better sweet side than typical veggies too. Anything "baby" tends to be sweeter than bitter. (ex: baby spinach etc)
Certain processed foods have ton of sugar in them. Avoid those if you don't want to think about it. Have you ever heard of the snack line "just veggies"? Its a good salty snack replacement. The mix and plain peas are my favorites. But they are dry and can be toted around so I think they make a good kiddie snack too. Mix some of the plain peas with wholegrain seasame sticks and its SNACKY time. Good luck! I know it can be a trial on the food adventure trail.
Another fast & healthy is that precut fruit you can pick up. Kids love that stuff. Give them a fancy fork and they think its a party for one. ☺
