On this subject. I like what is essentially the tri-fecta of Mafia movies charting out the history of the Cosa Nostra. From these 3 movies you will learn everything:

The Godfather I (II also if you wish) - the Mafia in their heyday of power and influence in the 40s and 50s, before the FBI even admitted they existed. Big hitting mobsters engaged in wars, living in mansions, dealing in complex plots and sub-plots, moving the world as if they were puppet-masters.

Goodfellas - The soldier view of the Mafia, showing the beginning of the end in the 60s and 70s. The decline is here. It starts gloriously in the late 50's with free-spending money and glory, but in the annals of Mafia history you have the infamous Appalachia bust, you have Joe Vallachi, and you have the impact of drugs on the Mafia. This is all reflected in the film without directly referring to these events. The goodfella's life in this film is reduced to one of survival and paronoia as his main occupation becomes drug dealing - survival from jail, from death. He does survive, by ratting on those he's known all his life.

Donnie Brasco - Here the life of a Mafia member in the 70s and 80s is a pitiful existence. Here is the mafia under the RICO act, with most of it's senior members in jail or dead. This, like goodfellas, is a true story. These are bluecollar working men, living in small apartments, working long hours, competing for promotions and to get noticed by "the boss", struggling to make ends meet - made men resorting to stealing quarters from parking meters. Whatever illusion of glory was in the past mafia, is no longer here. The fear of arrest, or murder, is. This essentially charts the death of the Mafia.

A biopic should be made about Vincent " The Chin " Gigante with Chazz Palminteri in the starring role.

Question Mafiosi.

The mafia is still around. Just watch CNN. Or a local news network. They mainly lay low after pulling off crimes. Some are cyber crimes.. Such as hacking or using tools to transfer funds, the list goes on. Not just trolls. Money . Note the drug business is no good. Unless you are looking to do time.
