The problem is that people want to judge people of the past by the moral standards of today...
Sure, slavery was and has always been an abomination, as far as we humans in the 21st century are concerned, but people didn't view it as harshly back then because they grew up in a world where it was accepted.
It isn't fair to apply todays moral standards to people of the past.

Exactly, also it's not like we are more moral in other ways today. Leftist advance the narrative that it was just white America that is the bad guys with slavery and colonization, and we're still the bad guys. But the fact is the British American didn't do anything everyone and everyone else did or was doing or worse. The 2-5% who were slaveholders were only trying to benefit themselves, undercutting white labors, while half of whites were indentured servants. We don't have indentured servitude or slavery anymore, but the top 1% switched to mass immigration of foreigner workers and outsourcing.

I am pretty sure the black people viewed it harshly;otherwise why did they try to get free?
Also,on another note,why are we in the present(The USA) trying to apply our moral standards to the Middle Eastern majority Muslim countries?

Oh yeah, it's the era of 0bama, and everyone is thoroughly obsessed with race, looking at the world thru racially tinted lens of suspicion and distrust.
Used to be illegal for a white man to marry a black women etc etc, in the 60's.
We as a nation have overcome allot, but to try and pin the National Anthem on racism and hate due to one sentence is silly(Like John Legend is doing, and looking down on it like that 2econd string 49er quarterback), and Francis Scott Key was an awesome patriot and wrote a great song.. Very patriotic if you really review the song.
