You can, but you'd have to find other people to do it with. I still think that local theater would be a great hobby for you. Lots of interaction with other people, plus since you like public speaking, the stage should be a very comfortable place for you.

Perhaps there are local acting classes. This is a great way to meet people and network.

How about storytelling? If you're a good public speaker you might want to try that. Inflection, voices, etal and you could do it before students at a school or as an historical character actor at a museum in costume.

I'm up for salsa dancing myself on my trip to Miami this winter. Already took ballroom dancing, golf, and painting lessons. Why limit yourself to one hobby?

OOOh I would love story telling!!! I did that this past summer with my 7 year old nephews class at the library.

I played Sandy the Spider and my inflection of my voice and enthusiasm drew the kids in and the teacher was amazed--so were the other adults. I never heard the story and they asked for volunteers-so I thought this would be a great way to show my nephew that he can get over his fears of being timid if he sees his auntie up there playing a spider.

I saw the little kids eyes widen and there mouths drop as I told the story...Even the teacher and other parents were delighted to see my involvement! Great idea!! I never thought I could do that as a hobby...Where would I begin?? I do love children and I loove to read and enjoy teaching them things. Thank you for that great idea!!!

I went to a Messanic Jewish Synagogue today and found out they have dance classes to learn Jewish/Israeli dancing; I am going to sign up. I LOVE their music and worship So you are right you can multiple hobbies

There would be two way of storytelling. One, you could read something, and the other, you could memorize a story.

I'd say you could contact any school, particularly the lower grades and do it in any classroom or as a presentation to the entire school in their auditorium or wherever they assemble. It's very usual for entertainers to make arrangements like this and some people even travel with it as a career.

We had a retired theatre professor who use to place an ad in the paper and dress in costume at holloween and for patriotic events (at a library, museum, local bandstand) or for historical story presentations, she even wrote her own kids books that she read. You wouldn't hear a pin drop when she was talking. The kids loved it and oftentimes it was informative too.

Default ~♥~

Until you can find a hobby that "calls" to you, you can always visit a retirement home or an animal shelter and try to bring a smile to a person or a pet. It will be rewarding and may lead to something fun and good. ~♥♥~

My Hobby recommendations;

Rock-hounding,
Handcrafting,
Painting,
Photography,
Kite building and flying,
Fishing,
Radio control models,
Writing stories, novels, plays etc.,
Scam-baiting (can be hazardous),
Creating new meal recipes (can also be hazardous) !

There are 865 threads in this forum. If none of them relate to an activity that might interest you, the 866th probably won't either.

I have decided to volunteer at my 7 year old nephew's school. I may do some tutoring and do story telling as well. I am excited about this opportunity!
