I have loved boating for as long as I can remember. There's just something about being surrounded by nothing but beautiful ocean and fitting in as much fishing as is possible in a single day!

In a few weeks, I'm going to be doing some offshore fishing about 30 miles out in the gulf and enjoying the salty sea breezes. I'm hoping to catch some grouper, sea bass or snapper...but honestly, I'll just be happy to be out there soaking some rays and taking in the gorgeous ocean view.

Anyone else who loves boating and/or fishing? If so, where do you like to go and what do you like to catch?

I love sailboating. It provides a feeling of being at one with the environment, when moving along quietly by wind power.

I've never been sailboating! I bet that's just as peaceful and refreshing as when I go out on the boat. When I'm 30 or so miles out, I'm enveloped with the overwhelming feeling of "being at one with the environment" (as you have so eloquently stated) and feeling closer to God than I ever feel when I'm inland.

Do you fish at all? Or do you just enjoy the tranquility of the ocean, sun and sky?

Yes, but I am just a passenger. The family fisherman let's me go along and I enjoy the boat, the water, and the scenery.

I've had boats since I was 8 years old. Pretty much have done it all in a boat. I've driven everything from a fuel dragster at over 100 mph to a twin engine 42ft Chris Craft Commander. I prefer a small boat these days with a deep 16-18ft boat ideal for me. Love the water. Unfortunately, the current spouse hates it so all the boats are gone. At one time I had 3.

This is how I started out! After awhile, I wanted to try my hand at fishing...and after that, I was "hooked"! Enjoying being out on the boat, the beautiful sea and the peaceful aquatic scenery along with reeling in a grouper or sea bass is THE ultimate way for me to spend the day!

Currently boatless, moving to N Maine I plan to build a small skiff, I have a Johnson 15.

My previous boat was a 20 foot center console with 150 hp.
Love striper fishing.
Trout ain't bad either.
