. . .
I'm new to the area and bought a couple books on hiking.
I have found some wonderful trails - particularly Bottcher's Gap (fairly secluded) and some Mid-Carmel Valley areas . . . However, I'm hoping for some "unofficial" hiking areas where I wouldn't have to share the trails with other hikers . . . (I'm in it for the photography and go really slow, thus seem to find myself always in the way . . .). Anywhere from San Jose to Hollister, Santa Cruz, Down to Posts (I've heard nice things about nacimiento . . .) - I'm not afraid to drive a bit (and I am particular to the redwoods and the more diverse flora and fauna, the better!). I'm in Pacific Grove (Monterey Bay).
Thank you in advance!

Top Nine Day Hikes in Monterey County

The central California coast is a beautiful place with agreeable climate. This link has some good hikes listed although I have not done these. I generally stick with Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Sierra Nevada and Mt Shasta when I rock climb or hike in California
