Yep, Kovalev was great for a time also. Lack of supporting cast for sure. Remember when the Habs had Patrick Roy? At least they put some decent players around him.

Yeah. And that was the last time they had a star and surrounded him with good players.

They were doing fine a few years ago when Subban/Markov held the back line with Price in goal, but they needed firepower up front, and again, failed to add any proper assets. Management also didn't like to see the players having fun (LOL... See Subban/Price triple-low-five) and so bickering and all sorts of things ensued. Letting the players have fun can work wonders sometimes, see how far the Hurricanes went?

Then they let Markov get old and washed up, and traded Subban (rightfully so at that point, I guess) and are now struggling to put pieces together... Again.

But hey, at least Montreal has 3 huge skyscrapers with a Habs logo on it, right? That's what's important.

That is true, lol. Got to give it to the fans, they love the team, win or lose. The Habs more than sell out every home game and they have one of the largest arenas by capacity in the league.

You're spot on about Subban/Markov. They let those talents waste, too.

Amazing how the Habs miss the playoffs 3 out of the last 4 years and no major changes in management take place, expect upcoming season to be as pathetic as the last few seasons.

I think most of the Canadian teams aren't that desirable to attract talent. Toronto being the exception.

It seems you have a pretty good shot if you have a decent core of superstars. Pens and Blackhawks have won 6 of the last 11. Pens had Crosby and Malkin. Blackhawks had Kane and Toews. Or you just need to get hot at the right time. Like the Blues.

The Oilers and and the Leafs have the core. They just need competent management. The other problem is is they each missed their window when their superstars where cheap. Their superstars are now on expensive contracts. Maybe they will need for their superstars contracts to become more "reasonable" with time. Like the Crosby and Malkin's contracts did when they won their back to back cups.
