Canada has NEVER won a gold medal when they have hosted the olympics.
While often unsuccessful, It is always their goal to win gold in hockey.
Perhaps with the lucky loonie buried at Center ice, this will be the year.
Can you imagine the Nationwide celebration, if that gold medal just happens to be in Men's Hockey ! ! ! ! !

That's not saying much, given Canada hosted the Winter Olympics only ONCE before, 1988 in Calgary. In 1988, the USSR was able to win it because they had superstars, while Canada was filled with 19 year old junior players.

It all depends on chemistry, last time they were supposed to win the gold, however Sweden played much better together.

NO, they also hosted in Montreal summer of 76, and as I said they have NEVER won gold when hosting. I guess I should have specified by saying they never won a single gold in any sport when hosting. ZERO
So, it would be awesome to end this drought with a Hockey Gold ! ! !

Canada certainly have a good shot, but there are a lot of good international teams. The Russians have a lot of star power, but some of their players just don't play two way hockey either so I am not sure they will be able to battle for gold this time around.

I think the Swedes roster looks really strong. A lot of good players on their team. The Czech republic should come in with a very good team too. The US could be a sleeper if they ride Ryan Miller and he plays as well as he has for the Sabres, but without more firepower on the lines I am not sure that the goaltending can carry them to the gold.

I would consider Canada a favorite, but not a given. It'll be interesting!

Can they win? Sure.

But realistically so can 3 other teams.........short tournaments are always a crap shoot with so much depending on momentum, team chemistry, injuries, and dare I say it, luck.

I hope you syrup suckers eat some Team USA ice shavings lol. You folks have an amazing team though, no doubt, and regardless of the ultimate outcome, I see it as a guarantee that you'll medal for sure. I would love to see the U.S. and Canada play eachother for Gold, because that would end up being like tonight's game magnified by 100!

Can they win......yes. Can they win with Brodeur in net.....NO. Brodeur has looked average at best losing to the US and struggling to beat even the Swiss in an overtime shootout. Tonight Ryan Miller faced 45 shots and gave up 3 goals and Brodeur faced only 22 shots and gave up 4 goals.......thats horrible in a "must win" situation. Broduer is best when he has a team that plays a VERY defensive system in front of him as he has had all his career in New Jersey but take him out of that element and hes and average goaltender as you witnessed tonight and against the Swiss. And, when the New Jersey defensive system is overwhlemed as we saw in the Flyers-Devils home and home series just before the Olympics he looked average too. Hes has benifited greatly by playing for the Devils and their signature defense first system has made him look better than he really is. Look for a Canadian goaltender change as they moved into the next round of play.

While I agree that he is a tad overrated, he was very good in that shootout. The blame for Canada's struggle belongs on the whole team, and on the coaches, not only on the goalie.
