Here is Laura Ashley Gold #3 with wood floors. The gold and crisp white trim is gorgeous together and notice how the gold warms up the space. Many shades of gold paint look great with most other colors. I like to paint my rooms colors that allow me to bring almost any color into the room - gives me a lot of flexibility when redecorating.

I love the gold and white tones just like in this picture. In fact, that's what we have in our living room. All our family and friends love the color.

Those of us who were alive in the harvest gold era are rocking ourselves in a corner with a blanket over our heads right now.

I think that it looks warm and inviting. It is not my house it is her's so she has to live with it day by day. In no way could it be considered "bad taste" or "tacky" these are defining categories that actually do have perimeters of bad taste and good.
You may not want gold in your house but her selection is certainly not in bad taste.
