Hi everyone, I just bought a 47"w x 47"h wall mirror that weights over 40+ lbs. I'm planning on hang it over the fireplace but thinking of hiring a mirror hanging professional to hang...just to be safe and sure......or should I just hire a handyman to do the job?

Also, can a floor mirror be hung on a wall? I've been looking for a long mirror to hang in my dinning room but can't find any wall mirror that is long enough....please help.

Thanks.

Yes. Hire a professional. Better safe than sorry.

I have a similar problem. What type of professional are you using? A handyman service or something else?

Do you have a Home Goods in your area? They seem to always have long leaner mirrors very reasonably priced, generally $49.99 to $149.99.

In the past, I have used Mr. Handyman and have gotten good results. Hanging a heavy mirror is scary because you don't want it to fall off the wall. In our area, they charge $80 an hour. other than them, I don't know who to call. We need a large picture hung (no wire on this one) and while it has directions on how to hang it, it appears to not be very easy. Not sure what we are going to do. Good luck to you in finding someone.

We hung a mirror in my house that is around 60 lbs and over 60" tall. It was moderately difficult with two guys doing the lifting.

That said, you best bet will probably be to hire a handy man.

Sorry,

We hang all mirrors/art work ourselves. Make sure the hardware on the back of the mirror is appropriate, or add appropriate hardware.

Find desired location -- if a stud is available - hang from stud. If a stud is not available use properly rated anchors or toggles.

Sure - requires possible use of a screwdriver or cordless drill, but not terribly difficult stuff.

Now if lifting the 40lb mirror into place is the concern - then make sure you have a couple of people to help.

If your anchor is in securely, and the hardware on the mirror is secure - its not going to randomly fall.

Caveat - assuming you are not in earthquake territory, etc...

Seems like a small job for a handyman, but I'm sure for $50, someone will come out and do anything.

Call a local glass or mirror place and ask for a recommendation.
