I want to tile an accent wall in slate, but I need to have my plasma tv mounted on this particular wall. Does anyone know if this is possible? Can a flat-panel TV be mounted (with hidden wire in-wall pass-through) on top of slate tile? I'm thinking I might have to scrap my tiling idea and maybe find a paint instead.

We hang a few hundred TVs on the wall ever year in the TV entertainment centers we build in place. Here is how we do it if tile is the back wall as is yours:

We remove the half inch sheet rock in a square area. Maybe a 4'x4' square centered where the TV will go. We will replace that 4'x4' drywall with half inch thick plywood. Your surface will be all flush. What this does is give you the option of mounting the TV mount any place you need to. Without this plywood area your mounting point will be limited to studs. And you know they will never be centered where you want them. When the whole area is plywood then you can secure your TV mount anywhere and have solid wood to hold the weight.

We normally put a wood skin over the whole wall that matches whatever wood species and color we built the TV center. For you this will be where you can tile or slate that area. You will simply mark your holes with the mounting bracket template and use a cement bit to drill through the tile but NOT the wood. This hole in the slate or tile must be larger then the screws you are using to mount the bracket. Now you can just screw in your TV bracket. The screw will go through the hole in the slate and bite right into that plywood. Use course NOT fine thread screws or whatever the bracket package supplies.

It's definitely possible since you haven't installed your tile.

Simply leave tile missing for the small specific area where you will install the bracket for the TV.

That way, the TV anchor will be installed directly into the wall (make sure there is stud located there).

You won't see the small unfinished space because your TV will cover it.
