My dream house has an open floor plan where the breakfast room/livingroom/dining room flow one into the other. I don't want to paint them all the same color. There is a relatively narrow wall between the sliding glass door and a living room window that I was thinking I could do some type of decorative slate on it to divide it from the living room. Hubby wants a stacked stone fireplace in the living room.
Is this tacky? Sort of like mixing prints? I would have to do it floor to ceiling to avoic stopping one paint color mid wall and picking up with another. Would that be stone overkill?
What about mixing stone and metal accents with wood flooring?

A floorplan sketch showing windows and doors is pretty much needed for an educated reply.
I have an open floor plan too and I am trying to break the place up by putting in wall tile on one of the walls in the living room. I think your plan is doable..I am imagining you trying to do something similar to what I am thinking for my condo.
