Huh? OK, here's the deal. We live in a two-story house with no bedroom downstairs, so we've decided to put in an elevator.
The place we've chosen will block windows both upstairs and down. The elevator door will be around the corner. The windows are vertical, approximately 2 X 5 feet. I guess we could just sheetrock over them but we'd like to do something decorative...stained glass comes to mind but there wouldn't be any light behind it. We're also trying to sell the house, so we can't just let it sit there unfinished for a long time.
Any ideas or any websites you'd recommend? Thanks.
You're trying to sell the house but you're putting in an elevator?
These were my first thoughts too. Why go to that trouble. I personally don't see an elevator adding any value, but they are very expensive. You'd get more bang for your buck by adding a powder room downstairs.

Here on the East Coast the home you are describing is a colonial and they never have bedrooms on the first floor. I can't imagine going to the expense of adding an elevator only to sell your house. Have you asked a Realtor about your idea?
By installing an elevator in a two story house which you plan on selling you will devaluating the selling price of your home as well as throwing money down the toilet. People with families will be in most probability your primary market and how many people would want their children exposed to the dangers of elevator shafts and mechanical failure? Elevators need to be maintained on a regular basis for safety reasons and this could be quite expensive.
The only residential elevators I have seen were in mansions or in a very expensive four story 9,000 square foot townhouse owned by a very wealthy elderly couple. You are severely limiting the market for your home. Please speak to a realtor before you do this.
