Let's say theoretically you were not able to change anything about a space and had to move in as is.

What are your dealbreakers? Here are mine:

WtW Carpet
Kitchens/bathrooms with no windows
Shallow bathtubs
Shower only bathrooms

So that would be apartments only, right?

Regarding a house, the only deal breaker would be location/neighborhood, as anything else CAN be changed.

No, this is just a "let's pretend." Houses can be included. For example, you were moving overseas into house that was corporately owned and you couldn't change it. Say you had a choice of houses and you would be living there for several years.

If the house has bad history, i.e., there was a homicide there or it used to be a funeral house or something similar to those natures.

Everything else can be changed.

Assuming I couldn't change anything, my deal breakers are:

- washer/dryer in the garage or the basement.
- tile countertop in the kitchen
- carpet in the bathrooms
- wall to wall carpet (I can deal with it in the bedrooms)
- a driveway that would be dangerous to back out of, into the street
- wood paneling
- inadequate closet space

No w/d hookups
No a/c and or heat
No window in the bathroom
No patio or outside space
More than 1 bathroom I cannot deal with less than 2 .
Inadequate closet space .

Don't care for kitchens that aren't "open," walled in (1 house like that in Az)
house with a pool
house with old roof, furnace or A/C
single pane windows in a house
paneling on any wall anywhere (just don't like paneling)
ugly wallpaper (don't mind attractive, small printed wallpaper--it can be warm & homey)
not crazy about popcorn ceilings

Oh here is another one of mine-- low ceilings. They make me feel claustrophobic.

For me it would be location. I do not want to live in an unsafe neighborhood. Nor do I want to live on the same street as a school. And if I can't change anything, I'd want a good kitchen with up to date cooking appliances. Old outdated kitchen would kill the deal for me.
