I recently purchased a more adult sofa- gotta love winding your way through your 30s...
And my issue is that it is a dark velvet. I originally put it perpendicular to the longer walls in the room but have decided my previous sofa placement in front of a double window on one of the long walls would work better. My question is- would you put a (dark) brown velvet sofa in front of a window? And a 1930s non UV film coated window at that.
I know leather can fade pretty noticeably but am wondering about velvet. Any suggestions/experiences will be greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't do it unless I had black-out curtains on that window and never opened them during the day ... which is to say, I wouldn't do it because I have to have curtains OPEN on sunny days!
I had a black on black fabric couch (in my first apt about a hundred years ago), what did I know?
It was under the window, and the whole top completely faded to a awful plumb color.....
never place fabric furniture under a window.
I left for work early, and never realized the sun came in the window that strong, and probably never paid attention on the weekends....
Thanks for the advice. I do have blinds on the windows & if I turned the slats up instead of down that would at least diffuse the light. If it were not so dark of a fabric I would not be nervous since I typically leave those closed.
But I'm now having plum sofa nightmares...
Would closed blinds be adequate? This is on the east side of the house so its morning sun & I rarely open the blinds before afternoon.

I think the blinds turned up would do the trick, but you cant forget to do that...everyday. or how ever you change the directions of your blinds.
or during the day you can place a "throw" over it where the sun beats down and remove it when necessary...
