Every now and then I hear about people adding a floor to their house, but it seems that very rarely do people actually go through with it. Your house looks great!!!! What all did you have to change on the inside to incorporate the new staircase?

Oh, the whole interior was completely changed around . . . most of the interior walls were knocked down and spaces were opened up. Also bumped out the back exterior wall about four feet. The staircase was placed as you immediately enter the main entrance . . . so you go into a very small foyer and immediately go up the stairs. To get to the main living/dining/kitchen space, you turn right through a hallway, at which point the living space opens up.

By the way, I did this once before, and the additional 2nd story produced amazing views of the city skyline and the mountains in the background. I was surprised none of the prior owners had thought to do it, since the house was built in the early 60s. Here are the before and after pix of those, as well as the view it produced.
