Hi, I am looking for some advice on colour and pattern of carpet to choose for my stairwell / hallway.
The staircase is a combination of light oak and wrought iron and the walls are painted in a faux Sienna marble, which is yellow, with tinges of orange including black and white marble veins.
I have no clue what carpet would suit this slightly eccentric combination. My only thought was a natural colour, such as beige/brown with perhaps a black geometric shape to compliment the metalwork on the staircase.
I suppose because the walls are so bright and decorative a neutral carpet might be best but I don't want to act in haste and make an uniformed choice here.
What about something like this? This is what we put on our stairs recently. You may not be able to tell but there are elements of orange and yellow in the pattern.

Carpet on stairs get so dirty and are so hard to clean.
The carpet we laid with that pattern hardly shows anything. I swear, I only vacuum it...well, I think I've vacuumed it once in about six months. Occasionally I will sweep it with a broom onto the floor below (about once every two months). Otherwise, it honestly seems impervious to dirt or anything else! I LOVE IT.
