I have used those type shelf hangers for years. One trick I did learn was to anchor as many as you can to a wall stud. You will have to remove the screw/nail in them and replace them with a screw to bite into the wall studs. Also the newer ones have a clip on them to prevent the shelf from rising up out of them.
23 years... they still look fine. but I'll be looking at them regularly from now on. Thanks for posting this.
