If your home has these types of wire shelves and plastic hangers, be aware that the hanger will expire at some point and if loaded, the shelves will likely come crashing down - or at least bow badly.

Shelf life (pun intended) for my plastic hangers turned out to be 21 years. They are currently failing all over the house.

The repair is not hard, but new hooks can be a PITA to install where two or three have been installed right next to each other in an up and down orientation.

The new system is much better. I would upgrade to that.

I never liked wire shelves. It seems wrong to put my clothing on them.

Your title had me scratching my head-

What the Hell do "plastic hangers" (what you "hang" your clothes on) have to do with wire shelves. Then I saw your pic...

They are "wall clips"-
Wall Clips | ClosetMaid

There are metal ones available now.

I had some that only lasted a couple years. I guess there was a bad batch or something. I had to go back and add clips to all my shelves in a house built in 2006 after one closet fell and I noticed others were cracking.

Makes me very glad that I took out most of the builder installed wire shelving and had a carpenter put in nice solid wood shelves!

I like the wire shelves, to me it lets the air circulate all arund, and dust doesn't collect on it.

As for plastic hangers, depends on the thickness of the hangers. I still have about 30 plastic hangers from 1979 that were 10 for a dollar at a flea market in brooklyn, still to this day I use them and nothing is wrong with them.

Last summer I made the mistake of using wire shelving with the plastic wall hangers to convert a closet into a pantry. I thought it would be easier and cheaper than building wooden shelves. WRONG!!! I will never, ever, ever use plastic wall hangers again. I ended up using regular wall anchors and screws to attach most of the shelving. I thought I was doing something wrong, so I even had a friend who has a contracting business try to install a couple, and even he had difficulty.

The shelving is okay. The plastic wall hangers suck.
