Dilemma: Curtain & Rod Placement? (doors are "flush" to the fireplace)
If Curtains + Blinds combo ... what colors? (these white blinds are headed for the trash)
I thought the same thing initially, but they're really expensive - we actually have another set of french doors in the kitchen - visible from the family room. So, that would be $$$$ for shutters on all 6 doors.
Would like to go the curtains + blinds combo route ... or just curtains.

Is there something wrong with the blinds? They don't look bad (in the photos), and you could get some of those clips that secure them to the bottom so they don't bang the door when it's opened.
To me, curtains on French doors don't make sense. You don't have room for panels, and the kind that attach block the view or end up looking grandmotherly.
No curtains. Plantation shutters for french doors:
I would NOT paint them black.
Agree with both these suggestions. Or how about Roman shades, Honeycomb shades, cellular shades, which are all some sort of light filtering clothe. There are many to choose from.
OP, you mention plantation shutters are expensive for six french doors, but it is a one time investment. Are you staying in the house for years to come? I think it would be worth it to spend the extra money.

First, no, don't paint your doors black, unless there is something else you intend to do the room that you haven't revealed. Your trim is traditional and painted white. I dreamed of gorgeous white trim before I moved the last time. You have a nice feature; enjoy it in white or possibly off white.
I think if you can't afford plantation shutters, I'd prefer the blinds you have now, unless they are falling apart. They look like decent quality blinds to me, and they look good in their surroundings. You can put sheers on your doors like this:
But I am not sure why this would be an improvement. Do make sure they fasten at the bottom with hooks, and that they hang at the same level on the bottom. If they aren't in good shape, and that is why you want to change them out, consider better quality blinds. I think you will get better light control with them, than with plantation shutters. It may be that the curtain door panels please you more than blinds. Country Curtains is a good resource for these.
these blinds fit over your glass but inside a casing they look nice on the french doors I have these. They are easy to adjust. I would leave the doors white .
