When my grandkids come over, they make a game of running around the house and counting things - clocks, birds, cats, or lamps are the most common things but sometimes I say, "Count all the little wooden boxes!" or "Count all the pictures of people with gray hair!" or "Count all the round things hanging on the walls!"

It's not that I really COLLECT those things - they just end up in my house! (no live birds, though and only one large, live cat)

Stuff can be fun.

I have bottles on top of my kitchen cabinets. Most of them are wine bottles but I have other ones, too-bottles that I like the color/shape or some that have "meaning" to me. I know it sounds weird to have a bottle that has meaning-but there are a few champagne bottles from anniversaries and such.

Bottles can be pretty when the light hits them.

That's a forum question! What do we put on top of our kitchen cabs!

I have pottery. I love looking at it.

I've been collecting Polish pottery for about 25 years. I use it for our everyday dishes because it's so tough, but it's also really beautiful in my opinion. I thought it was a shame for it to be hidden in the cupboards, so we decided that since open shelving is such a big deal right now, we'd add some. So here's what we did - we had one shelf and the a big painting there before we built these shelves.

Do you have a hobby or interest you like to talk about or as a conversation starter when company comes???

That's my advise to many homeowners I met.

Some likes traveling, will display their collection when traveling over seas. Some loves coffee table books. Some collect antiques. Some musical instruments. Some are into their own jewelry making... Will get a wire sculpture jewelry display to talk about their work... Met a geologist who collects stones when she work sites she traveled to... She put a thick frame n make a display box with layers n slots for all different stones, real neat. Or if your interested in horses.. Saddle leathers, a wooden bowl full of old horse shoes or similar art etc.. Be of interest to company one keeps that tells the story of "you"!!!

Good luck, have fun.. But make it all" you"!!!
