I just finished a book called Davita's Harp, which was good, btw. Davita was a child and the title referred to a Door Harp that was present during the many moves of her childhood (WWII era). They hung it on the back of their front door and, when the door opened or closed, there was music from the harp.

Anyway it got me thinking about door harps. I did a search and found a couple on eBay that were nice, and many that were "Granny Arbuckle" style (as my antique shop friends used to call any home crafty looking stuff). I'm going to get one eventually. I think I'd rather spend a bit more and get something nice.

I was wondering if anyone had one hanging in their home? I thought this would be the right forum section since it's decor.

This post brought a smile to my face and made me laugh out loud. When I was in high school and college and the legal age for drinking was 18, my mom had a harp on the door and I hated that darn thing. IF I had been our bar hopping there was no way I could sneak in the house without that blasted thing playing a tune!!!
It was like a klieg light back in my party days!!!

That's funny! My best friend had a poodle who loved me but always barked at me. We could never sneak in at night!

I do have one! Couple years ago I decided to do a decorative "musical instrument wall". it started with a dulcimer I found in a second hand shop.

Since I'm not musically inclined, I searched ebay for different looking instuments.

Anyway, I bought a door harp on ebay, had no idea what it was! It's missing one ball, but it just hangs on a wall, so that's ok.

I love them, so cool.
