I have noticed more chinoiserie in general in the last few months. My feeds are full of it.

This all sounds fabulous to me

Bring on the jewel tones and plush velvets! And bling too. I'm sick to death of shabby chic and stuff from the 1950s and 1960s that wasn't pretty the first time around in my opinion!

And if I see one more farm implement turned into a coffee table I might scream.

(As sure as I say that, I'll be presented evidence that these styles actually can look good in the right setting -I do realize that. I'm just ready for a trend change.)

This from someone who once used a quilt as a table cloth. And who also still owns a starburst mirror. So yeah...we all go through phases.

I did pass, however, on a pig stretcher (a sort of table used to slaughter pigs) that was being sold as a coffee table. I mean, it was all cleaned up, but I just couldn't get past it's original use, even though it looked sorta cool.

Given a choice between farmhouse and metallic velvet bling, I'm inclined to think most of us would punt...

LOL not all this at once!

Metallic OR velvet OR bling. I think any piece (large or small) with all that on it at one time would be a bit over the top!

OK true story - my husband and I don't live all that far from Waco so we've gone to "the silos" twice now - once on our own and once because some visiting family were dying to see it.

Both times I wanted to buy something there because, well, because it was a home decor place and we'd made the effort to drive out there and surely there would be SOMETHING I would like.

Except that Joanna Gaines' style definitely doesn't include much color, and I love color. Sure, if I wanted something made out of naked wood, aluminum, or covered in chalk paint, I'd have no problem. But oh my gosh, actually finding something to buy was a problem. I finally ended up with a (neutral) outdoor pot for plants one time, and a green glass vase another time. And the green is very low key!

I wonder if one of the reasons Chip and Joanna are ending Fixer Upper is so she can come up with some new ideas. Both for any future TV shows and for her own merchandise lines. I think her designs and merchandise have become kind of a parody now.

Is she a trained designer?

My guess is "industrial rustic". Very cheap to produce at the lower levels, some interesting concepts at the high quality levels. And it allows people to pretend they are both very urban (industrial) and down-to-earth (rustic) at the same time.

I don't much care for it, so I'm sure it is up and coming.

Here is what I’m seeing at market today. Formal. Especially from higher end designers. Combinations of modernistic with traditional. Metals. Last and what they are calling American West. Known to many as south western decor. But it isn’t the mint and peach of the past. It is more monochromatic and stark color. Think Indian Mesa desert prints in two colors like black and white. Keep in mind I’ve just viewed the tip of the iceberg so to speak. A absolute huge amount more to see. Oh and wallpaper is looks very modern. Metallic on saturated color. Not seeing a cohesive trend across the board as of yet.

I'm ready for farmhouse style to be done too because it annoys me that stuff I've always done (shiplap, white, etc) is suddenly anywhere and everywhere even when it does NOT work for a space. I hate looking like a trend so please, design world, move onto something else so I can be my quiet farmhouse/country/whatever style again that IS appropriate for living in rural SC!

Agreed. And the sign of ripeness for a new trend. Basically if your house is not a farmhouse, or doesn't speak "farmhouse" its hard to pull off shiplap. But people will try.

I do think more formality is the logical way for pendulums to swing.
