A friend had them put in her current house and just had the entire main living area in her newly-built retirement home done in the wood-look porcelain. Her reason is her 2 dogs. The floors look beautiful and, clearly, she has been happy with them since she put them in her new house. The installer in the new house used a more narrow grout line and she likes that better than the wider one in her old house. It makes the floor look more like wood. I think the manufacturers provide a recommended grout width.

I would not want tile in my living areas - too cold, too hard on your back and feet, too much breaking of cups or dishes when they get dropped as they inevitably do. They can look ok but at least to me, I don't feel like they are functional beyond a bath or laundry room or maybe something like a sunroom. I had tile in my last kitchen and wouldn't even have it in there again.

I heard they work beautifully if you use floor radiant heating. Wood floor does not work very well with floor heating.
