I don't normally like orange. But I think it looks really nice in your room.
Very balanced.
Thank you - a little orange goes a long way.
But it's a great accent color paired with other deep colors. I think it really has to be paired with other colors that are just as rich or it can be overwhelming.
You can just see the little alcove to the far left of my photo. My house has ten foot ceilings. I was originally going to wallpaper the back wall of that alcove with something really striking but then I thought about suspending fabric with two tension rods and liked that idea better. You should have seen the look on the clerk's face when I said "I'll have ten yards of this orange fabric."
Great link with lots of ideas. So far I have new pillows in teal/aqua shades and a new "modern SW design" rug in earth tones with turquoise accents. Will be adding to the living area orangy/coral accents. My big dilemma now is drapery colors. Have one set in dark chocolate brown black out type. Wondering if I should consider instead a tan or possibly teal but have 2 huge windows plus slider door all close to the couch. What do you think?
Still looking for the right 40 x 30 canvas art for above the couch, maybe in an ocean scene, BUT here's a new dilemma: have this huge buffalo skull that wants to be mounted on the wall and there's room in the living area with the 23' ceilings but would it look odd on one wall with an OCEAN scene on the other?
Suede or microfiber looks like suede drapes next to log walls is a good look. If the tan seems rich enough, I'd use that for all the windows because it is a good year round color choice.
I hung a buffalo skull with a bunch of twisted copper wire in our old log guest house & it looked great. & copper is a good accent for turquoise.
If you can't find a piece of art you love, use sepia toned (b&w) photograph(s) until you do.

Thanks for the ideas! I might try the tan drapes on one window to compare with the brown. Copper accent for turquoise---makes sense!
I wouldn't worry about hanging the skull in the same area as an ocean painting by the way. As for the drapes, I'm not crazy about drapes to begin with and the idea of introducing tan to the existing color scheme doesn't appeal to me. Can you go with just blinds?

Tan drapes would be very close in color to the tan log walls, tan ceiling, tan floor (minus rugs), tan dog, cats....way too much tan! ;-)
Still not completely sure about the buffalo skull but it has sentimental value--maybe it will end up on the wall in the office.
The buffalo skull is huge. Hunter Wold, my late husband (known to many here on City Data) shot the buffalo in the Dakotas years ago so I hate to part with the skull--but need to find a "home" for the buffalo cape (not here).
About the drapes: the only reason I'm just now getting drapes is to help with insulation because it's cold and windy in the winter and hot and sunny in summer otherwise I like blinds, too.
Thinking Spring and want to redecorate my living room. Have a medium brown couch and 2 recliners and chocolate brown drapes. It's a log home with medium light stain on the walls, lots of windows and light. Thinking blue pillows and other accents, maybe new rugs. What shade of blue do you like with chocolate brown?
I don't like any shade of blue with a chocolate brown color.
