Aside from any kind of tile looking design (ceramic, glass, stone), what different types of kitchen backsplash do you like?
I've seen beadboard and chalkboard. Any other ideas?
It depends on how nice you want your house to look. With granite countertops, I would use a tile there are so many tiles out there you could find something that looks outstanding. We just used one in a kitchen that the tile changed shade of color as the light hit it.
I like a smooth finish; rough backsplashes are hard to clean, especially in a gas kitchen.
Last time I remodeled a kitchen, I considered jalousie glass; it was available cheap, and looked pretty cool. You'd have to paint the back of the glass, or the glue/mastic would show. I wound up using glass tile, which came with painted back.
My current house had no backsplash at all, just paint. I found some faux tin tiles (plastic) and did the area behind the sink, but not behind the stove. Much more attractive, and they were from Dollar Tree, so $1/sq ft. Self stick, so fast and easy to apply.
The name backsplash should mean easier to clean. Some of the lovely tile and inlays are just grease catchers and mold capture stations.
I like the look of continuing counter top material up the wall (quartz or granite)
