new Southern Living mag (I think) or one of the ones on the grocery store rack has dining room done in blues/violets--with some white accents...and more formal wood dining furniture
yellow would be good accent in that room
and I am like the others who has seen TOO MANY dining rooms with one red wall---
Check out Waverly patterns. They have some stuff that works with your colors.
If you decide to paint a yellow, please start off really light and then go dark. Yellows have a tendacy to dry darker.
I was watching HGTV this past week and the host of the show made a comment about the red dining room being dated and "too personal" for selling. I, too, have seen way too many red dining rooms with white below the chair rail. Very generic IMO.
Our dining room has white wainscoting on bottom, and a yellowish-orangeish "butter" color above. We just had this done last week and I think it is gorgeous! I wasn't too sure about it, but my painter came up with it and told me to wait and see...they were right I love it!
Here's a picture of the dining room in my old house. It is a great color and would match the green in your china. I put up red curtains. The color is Behr "Mother Nature" 410F-4. It is really beautiful especially with red and black accents. I agree that the red above chair rail is over done.
This is the color of my current dining room. I love it. It too goes well with red. The builder chose this color. It is one of the trendy colors of today. If you want the name I can get it for you. I have to look for it.
FYI this is a picture of my sister's dining room with the red on top. I have to say it is really beautiful. I used this red in my previous house on accent walls.
