I've never seen someone pull of painting tile before... the stuff doesn't exactly adhere to the material too well, and a lot of bathroom cleaners + the dirt and soap they'd be exposed to would tear up the paint in no time.

If its done with the correct primer and paint it will work. I have my faux artist do it all the time..... even in my own house.
I don't think its actually painting the tiles - its reglazing, right? You can do it yourself, but you'd probably get a better result by having a pro do it. I'm considering this myself. It doesn't seem that expensive, and you can get pretty much any color you like.
If you like the green (I kinda like it) then I agree with the earth tones - maybe a light terra cotta or sand color?

Thanks for all the replies The green isn't absolutely horrible, it may grow on me (cue my husband, like mold, har har). I need to start looking at some BM swatches - anyone have any in particular they recommend?

my faux artist actually paints them, I dont know what kind of primer and paint she uses, but it works, she did the backspash in my kitchen 3 years ago, and all the paint is still on there!
I can't see the shade of green, because of the shadow. Purple does set green off nicely, yet if your tile is not dark, I'm not sure I'd go with a plum color or darker. There are two techniques that I think would look nice--as far as faux painting goes. Marble-izing, and colorwashing.
I am interested if StarryEyedSurprise ever came up with a color for her green bathroom. From what I can tell from her pics, that is the same green I have in my master bathroom. We have lived in this house for over 10 years and I have been trying different things with that green and nothing works. Right now I am leaning towards painting the bare walls a stark white and accessorizing with a light coral (towels, soap dish, pictures, etc.). I am not interested in painting the tiles or re-tiling. Any other suggestions?
