i have an 03 acura rsx with 130k miles, automatic shift and when the car is running and in Drive but stopped, say at a red light, there is a whistling chirping type sound. If i put it in neutral the sound stops. When driving i dont hear the sound. Anyone experience this or have an idea what it might be? thanks

I'm assumig it's the drive belts but the shop would be the best place to check. Does the chirping sound at all like slipping? Is it louder when the car is cold?

its sort of like a rattling high pitched whistle or chirping sound. guy at the oil change thought it might be something called the idler, not sure what he meant. maybe the belt pulley is loose? but it doesnt make any noise when i drive or accelerate so not sure. its the original belt from 03, never changed it. thnx

That's a good place to start.

While the belt is off, start the engine and see if the noise disappears. If it does, you're onto it. Don't let it run more than 30 seconds or so without the belt.
