I'm having a little bit of dilemma whether I buy a pre-owned 2011 Acura MDX Advance or 2014 Acura MDX Base AWD.
This is the situation:
2011 Acura MDX Advance
Mileage: 50200
Price: $32,500 (Brand new in 2011 about $55,000)
Previously owned in Georgia. The previous owner moved to Massachusetts. I suspect the owner is very affluent since he/she moved into the top town in Massachusetts. Maintenance records showed he/she took care of the car very well. I'm not worry about the high mileage, but I'm worry about the transmission (it has about 18800 miles on powertrain warranty). Transmission replace for this model car is $5,000.
2014 Acura MDX AWD Base (New)
Price: $42,500
The base model doesn't come with the technologies available on the Advance package but it is new.
My current car is an Infiniti G20T, bought new in 2000. It's still run perfectly fine...just a little oil leaky from the top of the engine. I would like to keep my next car as long as my Infiniti. That being said, I think the used 2011 MDX may not get me there, but the brand new 2014 likely will. I love the safety technology on the Advance package. I love the 3rd row seats easy access with a push of a button on the 2014 model. The monthly payment is about $100-150, give or take. What do you think?

Stay with older one, with the $10k difference your worried should be taken care of (you can buy 2 transmissions)...
MDX is probably the best value midsize SUV due to their reliability.

You made a very compelling reason. The more I think about it, I could put the difference in payment of $150/month into savings I could get $9000 in 5 years. In fact, I am going to check out the car and test drive tomorrow.
How long do you plan on keeping this? I would buy the new one since it is a redesign and if you can swing the $10k. Otherwise, the 2011 is not bad.
I plan to keep it at least 10 years. Yes, you can make argument both ways and that is why it makes my choice very difficult. The new model has many refinements including easy access 3rd row, quieter, better handling, VCM engine, and the redesign. I could only afford the 2014 AWD Base model. The base model does not have Blind Spot Monitoring. I know, I can look over the shoulder before turning but it's a very good safety feature. I know buying new, I am assure that I will not incur repair expense for at least 4yr/50,000 miles or drivetrain for at least 6 yrs/70,000 miles. Versus the pre-owned, I'm looking at Timing Belt / Tensioner and water pump replacement soon. It's probably around $1300 expense. However, it has safety features such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Pre-collision warning system, Adaptive Cruise Control (I don't use Cruise Control anyway), and adaptive suspension. The entertainment and navigation is a plus.
I would personally go with the 2014 because it's a new generation, completely redesigned. The 2014 has new engine, variable cylinder management, Smartkey standard, auto headlight/windshield wiper, multi-view backup camera standard (not just straight rearview), more airbags, LED headlights, "limo-mode" on 2nd row seats, etc. Although the 2014 doesn't have the advance package, it DOES have a lot more stuff standard than the 2011 such as Pandora compatibility, email/text, Aha radio (newest generation car-radio app), etc.
Yes, the owner was registering his/her car in Weston. It might be a convenient location for them, I don't know. I have driven the Variable Cylinder engine since it was first came out on the 2006 Odyssey Touring. It's nice increase gas mileage. The 360 view camera is not available for the US model though -- only Canada. The Advance Package for the 2011 has Self-Leveling Headlight and Dusk Sensing Headlight. It does have 2nd row heated seat "the limo mode you're talking about". It does have bluetooth for syncing phone. It does also have reverse tilt dual mirrors (2014 base doesn't have). I would miss the easy access 3rd row though. I can mind not having the latest audio compatibility. If I buy new, I may opt to wait for 2015. A lot of people complaining about the 2014's transmission, in fact, Acura/Honda announced a recall something related to the tranny.
If you plan to keep it 10+ years. Get a 2014. You should be able to get the 2014 for a little less than $42K.
I have a 2004 (owned it new since 2003). 50K miles is where things starts to creep in with service maintenance. You may be better financing with a 2014 than a 2011

Just bought it (the pre-owned). Put $0 down and financed the whole thing with 2.39% interest.
The "Comfort" mode was a little hesitation when stepped on the gas, RPM rev'ed up and down. The "Sport" mode was smoother and quicker on acceleration. The "Sport" mode felt like my 2006 Odyssey Touring. At moment during the test drive, I was thinking that I was driving the Odyssey. LOL.

The cars we drive say a lot about us. I totally agree with you.
The newer version of past model I believe would be much more fuel efficient and has certain enhancements that could really make our journey safer. 2014 Acura MDX is a pretty decent vehicle. I hope this may help .check the link for additonal details of the new 2014 ACURA MDX
HAVE A NICE DAY..
