Yes there are adjustments. If it was installed incorrectly, they may be a moot point.

It's this model here.

Right now we're suspecting the mixing valve is faulty. I'll go to HD for another later today; in the meantime if anyone has ideas please let me know!

Wow, how strange. I asked my husband and his reply was "what the hell?" lol. Of course neither he nor I are plumbers. We are curious though, can you run the hose and shower at the same time?

Fallingwater- yes, it was possible to run both simultaneously.
Thanks Harry, nice find there. I went to HD and picked up a second set and after replacing the mixing valve everything works as it should. My GC said that sometimes these sit on the shelf so long that vte gaskets and O-rings dry out, so they fail straight out of the box.

Thankfully I did not need to remove any of the newly laid tile to get at it. So all's well that ends well!

I can get my plumber to fix it, I should hope, but at this point I'm left wondering: how is that even possible?

And apart from hiring a plumber who may have spent too much time around PVC cement, could this be indicative of some other serious plumbing issue?

Thanks.
This is perfectly normal when the shower head is located outside, and is connected to the hose.

Glad it worked out. Not sure how much I buy that "dry out fail" explanation, since there is stuff called plumber's grease, and I have washers sitting in a box from forty years ago, but whatever. My better guess is that the installer forgot to remove the guts before soldering.

A bad valve does not explain why the outside hose spigot would have anything to do with it. The only answer to this one is obvious. Your house is haunted. Call a priest and have an exorcism.
