I have this gross popcorn ceiling - I want to remove it, what are my options and what is the most economical way to do so. ps i will be hiring someone to do this so no DIY info is required.

An 'official' estimate - will include removal of hazardous materials (I believe). Call a drywall/texturing contractor - because you'll want the ceiling re-textured afterward. (But someone with a clue, spray bottle of water, and a trowel can remove it quickly and easily.)

I'm 'chemically blonde' wife of contractor.

As Ray said in your other thread-
Ask the contractor that would do the work.

...so you have textured walls AND popcorn ceiling! Guess this house just RUBS you the wrong way!

This really is a DIY project--it's just a mess and time consuming. Get a spray bottle and a large putty knife. Get a plastic rain poncho and some large eye googles (like the ones you used in science in high school) and lightly wet the ceiling and scrape. It's not hard, just a MESS. Now, depending on how old your house is, there may be asbestos in the ceiling, that's a different story. In that case it's probably easier to put up new drywall over the popcorn and start fresh. We painted our popcorn ceilings and it really masks them and they aren't AS bad now .
