My sister opted for the professional and ended up with cheaper versions of the nicer appliances. She is not happy with her Wolf range but the SubZero fridge has been OK - she's had a few repairs on it.

You might want to make sure exactly what models you are getting them and see if you like the features. Otherwise, go the standard route and replace them yourself with appliances of your choosing.

My aunt and uncle had a Sub-Zero and it was a money pit. However, our GE profile has been nothing but trouble also.

Thanks again for your answers!

Cleanability is important and I was looking for that too, when reading the descriptions. The burners for example are sealed, the ovens self cleaning, etc.

My husband wants the Professional kitchen but agreed to change one of the ovens into a Convection Steamer. So I hope we both will be happy.

1. Sign up for an online subscription to Consumer Reports. $26/year. They are quite good at reviewing appliances.

2. We owned a Sub-Zero for 24 years and it worked like a champ. I really miss it in our new house. Actually, I hate our Whirlpool, but we had no (reasonable) choice.

3. You should analyze the price of each item in the builder's packages to see if it makes sense.
