As others have said here sump pumps are for runoff, stormwater, groundwater, etc. In our towm we do not allow stormwater runoff, etc to be routed into the sewer system. In the last couple years we have had record breaking rainfall and the efforts over the last 20-30 years of separating the two drainage streams is what has kept us in the lower half of sewage plant violations compared to other towns and cities in the region. It also lowers sewage treatment costs since we are not treating runoff that doesn't need to be treated.
The same concept would work if you have a septic system but would have more of an effect on your direct costs since it is in your direct interest to optimize your septic system performance.
