I have a shadow box style fence but it has become heaving weathered due to the west facing sun and Florida heat. What can I apply to preserve the wood a little longer. It is treated lumber and now has a silver color. Should I spray or roll? maybe a lightly tinted Thompson Water Seal? No paint, some kind of stain.
Thanks,
Go to a big box store. Buy a 2 gal container of Olympus deck cleaner. Use a garden sprayer to spray it on and follow directions. Then buy a QUALITY deck stain and roll or spray that on.
Ah, the age old question-
"Which stain/sealer is the best?"
In all circles- it depends. But my ever resounding response is: TWP (Total Wood Protection) 100. It by far exceeds ALL water-based sealers. And for the most part, exceeds all other oil-based sealers. Why? Well, this could have a lot to do with it-
"TWP Stains are the only wood and deck stains on the market that are registered as exterior wood preservatives by the EPA." Meaning a very heavy VOC content- as a matter of fact, TWP isn't even allowed in 17 states because of the VOC content.
Make sure if spraying that you use a airless guns which you can rent.Figure the recommend coverage per gallon and apply that amount to fence by square footage. Less may look ok at first but it wouldn't holdup well.
If I were doing it I'd also pressure wash the fence beforehand.
Yes............
