I hate chips, cracks or any defect in vases, ornaments etc and even if I liked them a lot I have to throw them out.... same with scorch marks on anything... I hate it, My mother used to keep things and try to glue them together or turn an ornament to the wall so that no one would see the defect....does anyone else hate broken, cracked , chipped dishes or ornaments in the home..
Depends on the damage. Broken glass ornament of something of the sort then yes. A scratch or something I can easily glue back on then I'll fix it. I'm pretty handy and so I'll attempt to keep it first but usually with glass items, once they chip we toss them.
I throw out broken glass ornaments. I have a ton of dough and clay ornaments that we have made, and I'm good at repairing those, even though they don't usually break.
I'm not really an ornament kind of person, but I doubt I'd keep something that was damaged, especially if it had no practical use. My house is strikingly devoid of purely decorative objects.
Most of my ornaments are inherited and have some meaning to me so if they have a chip or imperfection I keep them as its usually part of their story.
I have Czechoslovakian glass from an aunt and uncle, he was evacuated from Czechoslovakia at the beginning of the war and left an orphan in the UK. His family owned the glass factory and we only have a few pieces but they are beautiful and remind me of them.
I have a rather cracked and chipped fruit plate that came from my great great grandmothers home, I can remember it being on a side table at my great grans and then on the sideboard at my nana's house. It was always used never a show piece, I don't use it any more as its fragile but I love the pattern on it.
Years ago my teenagers broke a Flow Blue platter that I was especially fond of - it was in a million pieces. I threw it out but since then I've wished I'd saved all those pieces and used them in a mosaic. The hard work was already done!
Depending on what the ornament is I often banish them to the garden. A cracked or chipped urn or small statuary can look pretty good outside.
I have a ceramic Christmas ornament that has been dropped, chipped, cracked, flooded, lost and most recently went through the the extreme heat of a house. Was good after I chipped off all the melted plastic. My Grandmother hand painted it and kiln fired it for my first Christmas... It's not going anywhere. It has character and very looooong story behind it.
Most of the time I throw away broken ornaments, but if it's something irreplaceable I'd probably try to salvage it.
