John, the OP is a newsie, he posts news in various forms on CD that he thinks might be interesting or entertaining. He usually does't have a dog in the fight. He rarely posts back.
There will always be a need for the microwave. Perhaps they will get smaller, since that seems to be the trend. At first, they were intended to cook full meals, but now they have settled out to be the best way to thaw a pound of meat, or bake a potato, or warm up a plate of leftovers. They don't need to be very big to do this.
Given the ideas from gentlearts, it would be interesting to see a graph of cubic feet of microwave capacity sold per year.
