Would you ever buy a used mattress from an unknown person?

Heck no! You can find a decent cheap one that's new.

Not anymore. I did buy a used bed with mattress years ago that was advertised or maybe it was a garage sale, before all these bed bug infestations. Still have it. But, I wouldn't do it again.

I don't think it is legal in my state. In fact getting rid of old mattresses is as difficult as getting rid of old refrigerators

Never. It's always been illegal in my state for as long as I can remember.

You are allowed to sell a bed but if they want the mattress, it has to be given for free. That's about the only way to get around the law. So MAYBE if I were buying a bed from someone and the person asked me if I wanted the mattress that went with it, and if they were very clean people, etc. MAYBE.

So whatever was shot on the mattress to make stains was not shot on to the headboard at least once?

Gross. No way, never, and no how.

Are you aware of how much sweat, other bodily fluid, dead skin cells, dust, dust mites, etc. are in old mattresses?

Gross and double gross.
