Seven years ago, I bought my husband a $400 Cuisinart. Unbeknownst to me, it broke and my husband bought a $15 Black and Decker. It didn't work the very first time he used it. Can anyone recommend a decent coffee maker that's reasonably priced and reliable? I don't want to spend $400 on something that will only last 7 years, but I don't want a POS $15 one either.
I don't know if you are strictly looking for a "drip" kind or would be open to a percolator style? We had a perc many years ago, and it died, so we went to drip style, and it seemed the coffee was lacking. I picked up a Universal percolator, circa 1950's model for about $22.00 on e-Bay, and love it. Also, it's made in the USA. In IMO the coffee tastes better, and it makes the house smell like a coffee shop. It's all in personal preference, though.
I had a Braun that I used for years and years and was very happy with it. I finally replaced it because a lot of the little plastic parts were starting to break (after like 14 years) and I wanted a programmable coffee pot, so I wound up buying one with the Frigidaire name on it. Both of these were drip coffee, well under a hundred bucks, and have given me great results (I've had the Frigidaire about six months so far with no problems).

I'm open to a percolator. That's really a great idea I hadn't considered.

Are you using the program features? That's one reason I bought the Cuisinart, but my husband stopped using the timer programming it years ago.
Yeah, I use the program feature all the time. The interface is a little clunky if you want to change the programming (e.g. some days I get up at 6, some days at 7) but it works fine. If you get up at the same time every day it's easy as pie.
I don't drink coffee very much so I use a Keurig since I can make hot chocolate and tea. However, I ALWAYS check at least three or four sites for reviews before I buy anything (even in a store). I like other people's recommendations but knowing that hundreds or thousands of others are happy with a product helps me know which direction to go.

We have a Mr. Coffee, it has a thermos for a decanter. Saves electric and the coffee tastes great even 4 or 5 hours later.
I've been looking for a small French Press for one cup, think I may end up just buying one at the camping store because none of the stores in my area have them.
