Hey everyone,

What are your thoughts on complete wall to ceiling ceramic (or porcelin) tiles in bathrooms? Many of the bathrooms are cut in half with sheetrock and tiles but I liked the whole wall to ceiling look - call me modern with old style cravings?

Actually, I hate it.

I have it now, and am in the process of a remodel. I just want the tiles behind the tub, and the rest of the walls I want sheet rock that I can paint, add wallpaper, bead board, moldings, what ever I decide.

I hate the fact you cant hang pictures or really decorate tiled walls.

The tiles I have were from the previous owners which was done in the early 80's, fortunately they are a bisque color which is neutral, but never the less, I simply hate them....

so I check the box yes, I hate floor to ceiling tiles.

I put tiles in up to the ceiling, but I only tiled the tub surround the hall bath and the walk in shower in the master (no tub in there). The rest of each bathroom is painted drywall. I like having tile to the ceiling in the limited area that I have it, but I think it would feel like too much if the entire bathroom was tiled that way.

It's your bathroom. If that's what you want, go for it.

I hate the look, personally. We bought a house that had this in both the master and guest bath. We're redoing the master bath at some point, so I'll have opportunity to change it, but the guest bath is brand new...

Really depends on the overall style / location of the bath and is very much influenced by how the bath or shower functions --

One of this is pretty clearly an up-to-date bath that despite no window has excellent lighting, and would be welcome by nearly any home owner, while the other actually be the kind of space that turns off buyers...

I would not be happy with either of those. I think you are far overstating it to say that "nearly any home owner" would like the top photo. It looks very claustrophobia-inducing to me!

While this looks nothing like my bathroom in terms of the actual style, I think it shows that keeping the tile confined to the shower area, even when it's to the ceiling, gives a much more open look to the bathroom as a whole.

Chet nailed it - it depends on the design. Modern design implementing ceiling and wall tiles looks great. Particularly those 'linen type' tiles (Marazzi Lounge14 being a good example) interspersed with mosaic/glass/etc. The dated glazed ceramic 6 x 6s look awful.
