I agree with Ohiogirl. I don't color-code our clothing nor do I always hang them up as neatly as I could, so to avoid embarassment, I'd close the door. Wha la!
Our last home had a basement that we finished quite nicely. When the work was completed, we decided NOT to put the door to the basement back on because for us, it was more convenient, made our space look bigger and provided better air-flow. BUT when it came time to sell the home.... we put the door back on. Complete package. New owners could do what they want.
I'm trying to imagine why a closet wouldn't have a door.
Some people like the look of a curtain, it's DIY friendly and for some it provides a tad more space/easier access to all areas of the closet. But I agree that for a rental the landlord needs to please the greatest number of people...so there should be a door.

Well, if someone wanted to come out they might prefer having curtains. They could throw the curtains over their shoulders--a la Carol Burnett--and make an absolutely grand entrance. Of course, by some, curtains might be considered a bit of a drag.
I am very organised, but I would never have a closet without a door. The curtains look cheap and aren't effective at keeping dust off clothing. Blocking light and dust is important if you are taking care of your belongings. It also looks like you cheated out as a landlord, so I would wonder what else did you cut corners on? Although my clothes are in very particulate order seeing the colours and textures would drive me batty since it makes me feel like clutter.
Personally I like mirrored sliding doors even though I hear they are outdated, and I like frosted glass even better.
