We're looking at a new one story house that we love, but I'm concerned the back yard is too small at only 20 feet to the back fence. Additionally, we wanted to put in a pool, but I don't think this yard has enough space especially with. 7 foot utility easement along the back of the property.
What do you think, is this yard too small for a pool?

20-7=13. The most narrow ig pool (fiberglass) I know is 8 feet wide. It's basically a lap pool.
The first pool I had put in.... local code required that for every foot of depth, it had to be the same measurement away from the house foundation. Our lot wasn't that deep..... so I only went with a depth of 4 foot. It was gunite. I also had to keep it 15 feet in from our back property line. If we'd had a normal flat lot we could have built out to 5 feet from the rear setback. House was on a cliff of sorts...We wound up with a width of 15 feet when all was said and done. Our lot was 44 ft deep from foundation to back lot line.
Every community has their own rules. Where I live now they don't care how close the pool is to the foundation and I see backyards that are basically all pool......except for the rear and side yard setbacks.
I would say a lap pool might work, too, but would take the majority of the yard. What about a smaller current pool, like an Endless Pool?

If you're want a pool, I think your best bet is a different house. If it's a new build, can you get the same house built on a bigger (longer) lot?
