Hi,

I have been noticing that my freezer rubber is not sticky anymore. And because of that it does not close properly. What can I do to solve the problem?

You can see in the picture there is a gap between the rubber and the frame of the fridge. Any help is greatly appreciated!

That strip is magnetic. You can buy replacements. Also make sure that the area where that strip seals is clean .

How hard is it to replace the seal? It looks like it is glued or something to the actual freezer bottom. Do I need to call in some professional or can this job be done by a non-technical woman like me.

If you google, you will find dozens of step-by-step instructions and even videos.

Only YOU know if you can do the job.

In your case it's not the magnet, but the aging has caused it to lose it's ability to expand and spring back when opened. It is a fairly easy DIY project for someone with basic tool skills, but if you are intimidated by it, and the freezer is still cooling well, go ahead and pay a professional. At the same time they can do a thorough cleaning of the compressor and coils. The gasket will likely be about $100 to buy yourself, and double that to have someone bring and install it. Call and ask, if that's all that it needs, they should be able to give you a pretty close quote.
