1. Much to my surprise, I discovered that the master bedroom has 18 electrical outlets! No worries about where to plug in lamps, alarm clock, exercise equipment, and so on.
2. My laundry room is long, but so narrow that I discovered that my dryer door won't open all the way without hitting the wall. That's OK, I bought one of those "reacher-grabber" devices to get anything out that I couldn't reach.
3. I discovered an unneeded sprinkler system that covered the entire yard.
I discovered that our street is the cut through for the private school around the corner. At 7:30 AM and 3:00 PM, I cannot back out of my driveway unless I cut them off as they speed through. We bought the house in July...
In a former home...that instead of repairing the leaky roof, the former owner had just placed a huge tarp on the attic floor (which was not discovered during the inspection as the inspector didn't go up into the attic). After a huge rainstorm, the tarp overflowed and the ceiling in our living room came down in a flood of water and plaster.
2nd house: no drywall under paneling in family room; heating duct not hooked up properly for one of the bedrooms; all bathrooms and kitchen shared one drainage pipe.
3rd house: subfloor not installed properly in one place; no guard on chimney, so birds flew in and couldn't fly out; deck was not built to local code.
4th house: porch rail was not anchored to anything; white garage door had never been painted; back yard had terrible drainage.
2. An opened bag of chips in the kitchen cuboard.....still tasty
3. Many nasty carpet stains under the floor rugs that the POs generously left behind.
4. A Knocking ghost that came out at dawn and sunset. Later discovered to be the popping
associated with truss uplift.
